Bells and Bell Ringers
St. Michael’s Church tower has a ring of ten bells, ranging in weight from 4cwt. to the heaviest at 16.5cwt. The oldest bell dates from 1713. They were hung in a wooden frame in 1820 and overhauled in 1989.
The sound of church bells is a reminder of the church in the heart of the community and a call to worship. So they are rung regularly on Sundays just before morning worship and on special occasions like weddings or at times of celebration, either local or national.
The bell ringers’ team meets every Thursday at 7.45pm for practice. Newcomers, experienced or learners, are always welcome.
