Help with Bible Reading
Most of us lead very busy lives and therefore do not always spend the time we should reading the Bible. Yet this is the word of God speaking directly to us - a vital channel of communication through which the Holy Spirit can work in us. Many people find the Bible difficult to understand and find it hard to see how it is relevant to their everyday lives. If you would like to have a better understanding of the Bible and find the resources that it holds for you day by day, there are a number of publications that have helped many people.
The Bible Reading Fellowship (BRF) produces two booklets. ‘New Daylight’ provides for regular daily reading and has a set passage from the Bible followed by a commentary which ends with a thought or prayer. ‘Guidelines’ is for those who can only set aside time every few days but can read the passage from the Bible. Both booklets are published three times a year, covering a four month period; the cost is minimal.
The Scripture Union (SU) produces similar publications. ‘Encounter with God’ is for those who want to explore more deeply while ‘Daily Bread’ gives an accessible comment, thought, and prayer. ‘Alive to God’ is less systematic in its coverage of the Bible but is very good for addressing everyday issues in our Christian journeys. All these are produced quarterly.
