The Mother's Union is a national Christian charity whose main concern is the Christian family life and handling the Christian faith on to children. Despite the name, membershipis open to women of any age, marries, single or divorced, whether parents or not.
The MU supports projects overseas and in the UK, such as 'safe house' for battered wives, a 'message home' scheme for runaway youngsters, and 'away from it all' holidays for families under stress.
The St. Michael's MU group meets in the afternoon on the second Wednesday of the month. Speakers cover a wide range of subjects and visitors are always welcome.
There is a monthly corporate Communion, a prayer group and an annual quiet day and various fundraising events.
The MU has close links with the Tiny Tots parents - refreshments are provided after the weekly Tiny Tots service and there is an emergency support scheme for Tiny Tots parents needing help. There is also a visiting group of members who regularly visit the elderly, bereaved and sick, and an 'Indoor Members Prayer Circle', for members who are housebound through illness or age, or by caring for others.
All of these activities are supported by prayer.
