Our Charitable Giving
through our Charities Support Group
Our Charities Support Group is responsible for deciding, on behalf of the PCC, which charities and organisations should be given money from the Charities Support budget. This budget is made up of both funds that are entrusted to the Committee by the PCC for charitable giving (which amount to around 10% of the church’s general income), plus funds that are raised by specific Charities Support Group activities such as the annual Holly Fair.
Our aim is to give a tenth of our income (a tithe) to support the work of various missionary and charitable organisations working in the UK and overseas.
We see this as a practical way of demonstrating the gospel imperative to love our neighbours as ourselves.

The red bucket is partly a virtual one using electronic donations and can be done by BACS transfer.

Lent Appeal 2025
In Lent this year we supported two charities, through both our Appeal and our Lunches (on Tuesdays after our Lent Reflections at 12 noon). Many thanks to the congregation for your very generous donations. We are delighted to report that the total was £787 and this was split between the two charities:
Holy Trinity Night Shelter & Community Outreach
The charity operates over the coldest months of the year, from the end of November through to the end of March, providing a safe and warm place to sleep for people who are sleeping rough or at imminent risk of sleeping rough. The whole year round it attempts to help guests and day clients find a route out of homelessness. It supports users with other issues, including drugs, alcohol, mental health, financial guidance and move on options and ongoing support when they have reached a settled status. Supporting Dalit Children
Two Indian Jesuit priests, Father Eric and Father Maxim, founded Loyola School specifically for Dalit and other impoverished children. Dalits are also known as 'untouchables', or 'outcasts'. These children are the 'poorest of the poor'; many have lost one or both parents, and all the children work from a young age to help supplement the family income.
Sponsoring Children - Their primary aim is to educate Dalit and other impoverished children, at two schools and a university in India, with whom they have direct links.
Funding social projects that benefit Dalit children and their families - They also aim to support social projects in need of ongoing, and one-off financial assistance. Details of the social projects and one-off projects, can be found on their website.
Informing others about the Dalits - Their last but equally important aim is to inform others about the realities of life for the Dalit people in the 21st century.

The Charities Support Group would like to thank everyone who worked hard to make the Holly Fair a big success. We were pleased to see so many people brave the weather to support it and have made approximately £3,600. (£600 more than last year’s total). There was a warm, welcoming atmosphere including carol singing led by a group from the Choir.
We also hold ‘Red Bucket Appeals’ in the case of natural disaster and international emergency appeals:
Patronal and Harvest Appeals 2024
After our Patronal festival meal in September, £143.50 was collected and donated to The Bishop’s Stortford Child Contact Centre. The Bishop’s Harvest Appeal total for the Leprosy Mission (£376.46) was donated to their project in Sri Lanka. Following the excellent talk by Matt from the Leprosy Mission, including highlighting the Nepal emergency, our CSG giving of £500 and money donated then went to that appeal. Thanks to everyone for their generosity.
