Families Minister 


St Michael’s Church, Bishop’s Stortford seeks to employ a  FAMILIES MINISTER

To lead and coordinate efforts to foster, with God’s help, a more vibrant all-age church where families and their children are welcomed, nurtured and encouraged to know Jesus, participate in church community life and grow in their Christian journey.  A key part of this will be to assist the church as it ‘recovers’ from the impact of the COVID crisis on its activities, and also to help reimagine and deliver the ‘new normal’ for us here at St Michael’s.

There will be two elements in this important role:

To build relationships with families, young people and children and, as the Spirit leads, develop activities appropriate to their needs. 

To bring together and enhance the existing aspects of our Families’ Mission by working in collaboration with existing leaders, ministers and others in the congregation, and in doing so enable the church to more faithfully and coherently minister to the needs of families, young people and children in accordance with God’s plan for us.


Applications are welcome from lay or ordained candidates: a part-time or full-time role can be considered.  The post is for a five year fixed term contract.

Salary in the range £22K-£25K (full-time). Pension contribution and expenses provided.

St Michael’s is the parish church at the centre of Bishop's Stortford. With a longstanding choral tradition and close links with St Michael’s Primary School, for many years the church has had a reputation as a welcoming and loving community of worshippers. 

This is an exciting opportunity to do great things in God’s service.

It is an occupational requirement that the holder of this post is a practicing Christian, and fully supports the mission of the Church of England (as allowed under the terms of the Equality Act 2010).

Director of Music

We are planning for a formal search process for a new Director of Music at St Michael’s Church to begin in October 2021.

St Michael’s is a successful one-form entry Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School and Nursery, located on a tree-lined site in the centre of the expanding market town of Bishop’s Stortford. The school was established in 1818 and has strong links to the church from which it takes its name. The school provides a supportive and aspirational environment for learning built on Christian values.

We are a ‘Good school’ (Ofsted 2019) and achieved an ‘Excellent’ rating in our latest SIAMS inspection. Our children “flourish academically, socially and spiritually in a culture of being loved as individuals” (SIAMS 2019).
